Weipa’s Hibberd Library is a community hub, designed around inclusivity and respect. The library caters to all in our diverse community and aims to create a welcoming environment that empowers learning, creativity and a love for reading.

Hibberd Library is supported by the State library of QLD with our collection accessed and supplied by Rural Libraries QLD. This partnership includes our collection of ‘on shelf’ as well as e resources and online collection available to all members. 

Children 12 years and under must be supervised by a parent/carer/guardian at all times when in the Hibberd Library.

Computer access and printers

  • Children 12 years and under must be supervised by a parent/carer/guardian at all times when in the Hibberd Library.
  • The use of public computers is free and available to both members and non-members.
  • Free public wi-fi is available. Ask our library staff if you’re unsure how to access the wi-fi on your device.
  • Printing, photocopying and scanning are available at our library. A 30c per page fee applies for printing services.

Borrowing & Returning

  • You can borrow up to 10 items (per card) at a time.
  • Visitors/ temporary members can borrow up to 4 items at a time.
  • Items can be borrowed for 28 days and can be renewed provided they have not been requested by someone else.
  • Books can also be returned to the after-hours 24/7 chute located left of the automatic doors.

  • Adult fiction (including large print)
  • Adult non-fiction
  • Young Adult fiction

  • Junior fiction
  • Junior non-fiction
  • Picture Books
  • DVD’s and audiobooks
  • Graphic Novels (including Manga collection
  • Local history resources
  • Current newspapers (to read in the library)

Reserving items

You can reserve items in person at the library or online using the library catalogue

  1. Visit the library catalogue to browse our collection or search for specific authors, items or topics
  2. When you have found an item you want to reserve, select the title of the item and then select Place Reservation.
  3. If you are not already logged in you will need to enter your library card number and password (contact the library if you are unsure of your Password/Pin).
  4. Select OK.
  5. You can change the pick-up location to your preferred library branch, then select Place Reservation to complete the reservation.
  6. You will be notified once the reservation is ready to collect.

  • Toddler Rock 'n' Rhyme - Run during school terms - Wednesday at 9.30am
  • Baby Giggle ;n' Wiggle - Run during school terms - Thursday at 9.30am
