Queensland Government Cycle Network Grants helping to improve Weipa’s pathways

Published: August 1st 2019

Weipa Town Authority and the Queensland Government's Cycle Network Grants Program are working together to deliver great new assets for the Weipa Community.

The following projects are being co-funded by the Queensland Government's Cycle Network Grants Program:

Central Avenue Shared Pathway
The Central Avenue Shared Pathway project has now been completed. This shared bike/walking path provides residents of Weipa with many benefits including improved access to local businesses and facilities, more user-friendly infrastructure for health and fitness activities, and improved pedestrian safety for both walkers and cyclists. We would like to thank the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program for providing funding towards this initiative, and Goodline for the design and construction of the pathway.

Northern Avenue Shared Pathway
WTA has successfully obtained a grant to fund 50% of the project costs required to design and construct a new concrete bike/ walking pathway along Northern Avenue.  The design for this shared pathway will commence late 2019 with completion of construction expected by mid 2021.

Central Avenue Solar Lights Installation
Works to install a series of solar lights along the Central Avenue Shared Pathway are due to commence in 2020. The installation of these lights will help to improve the safety of the pathway to all pedestrians and cyclists 24/7.
