Local Laws Officer - Weipa
4 on / 4 off roster (12 hour days)
Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. The Weipa Town Authority (council) is currently looking for a Local Laws Officer to assist with the implementation and enforcement of Local and State Legislation in Weipa.
Reporting to the Coordinator Communities, you will be required to:
Work a 4 days on, 4 days off roster, including an on call requirement during the rostered 4 days on.
Enforce Weipa Local Laws and State legislation, including animal management, water management, Qld nuisance laws, and other Local Government related enforcement functions.
Assist with the implementation of the Animal Management Plan, including undertaking an annual animal systematic inspection program (audit).
Investigate, report recommendations and take enforcement action relating to community complaints.
Conducting town facility audits.
Assist with the management of the Weipa Animal Facility during rostered days on (i.e. cleaning duties, exercising animals).
Assist with the development and review of policies, procedures and management plans.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Experience in Local Government, animal management, law enforcement, customer service or other related fields.
The ability and willingness to work with animals.
A current Queensland C (Car) class manual drivers licence.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to resolve conflict and deal with difficult people and situations.
Well-developed time management and prioritisation skills of own work.
Good literacy and computer skills.
