Is your dog a storm runner?

Published: 4th December 2023

Storms and especially thunder can be extremely frightening for pets as they have no idea of what is happening nor where the noise is coming from.

Every storm season we see an increase in the number of animal impounding as a result of our furry friends trying to escape the thunder. They also pose a serious risk to road users and themselves as they are usually disoriented and extremely anxious.

WTA encourages all owners to secure pets inside or in a suitable enclosure if a storm is approaching.

It is extremely important that your pet can be easily identified in order to reunite them with you as quickly as possible and avoid being impounded. This can be achieved by:

  • Displaying current registration tag on the collar of your pet
  • Microchipping your pet
  • Ensuring contact details are up to date with WTA (including temporary carers if you are out of town). Update your contact details today.
