Weipa Town Authority maintains a variety of parks, playgrounds, sports ovals and open spaces for visitors and locals to enjoy. 

Sporting ovals

Andoom Oval

Andoom Sporting Oval

Located on Andoom Road, the Andoom Oval is a large active reserve developed primarily for rectangle sports, including Rugby League, Touch and Oztag. 

Andoom Oval is also the location for one of Weipa’s largest community events, the annual Weipa Bullride. Facilities include public toilets, rugby goal posts, bins and lights.

Weipa Cricket OvalCricket Oval

Located along Hibberd Drive, the Cricket Oval is primarily used for Cricket, AFL and bootcamp. It is currently home to the Weipa Cricket Club. 

The Oval is surrounded by shady trees with public toilets available. There is also a skate park at the site.

Hibberd Park playgroundPlaygrounds

Weipa has two larger destination parks, Hibberd Park at Rocky Point, and Lake Patricia. In addition, a skate park can be found at Rocky Point, along Hibberd Drive.

The WTA has released a Playground Management Plan which sets out a long term plan to achieve a network of play spaces that meets the current and future recreational needs of Weipa over the next 10 years. The Plan aims to provide a sustainable approach to balancing what is needed with what is manageable and affordable. For more information please review the Playground Management Plan.

Hibberd Park, Rocky Point, Hibberd Drive

This beautiful shady park has grassed areas, a bike path, fitness station, play fort, swings, climbing prism, merry-go-round, nearby skate park, seating, public toilets and ample parking. 

Lake Patricia, Kerr Point Road (dirt road) 

This lovely park is also well shaded, and is located on the foreshore of Lake Patricia. It has a play fort, swing, BBQs (take your own gas), seating, shade shelter, public toilets and plenty of parking.

Suburban parks

Flinders Park, Flinders Street, Trunding.

The park has a play fort, rocker and swing. 

Merluna Park.

Located behind Merluna Place, Trunding. This park has a swing, slide and a rope climbing frame.

Kookaburra Park, Kookaburra Court, Golf Links Estate.

Facilities include a BBQ, shelter, seating, shaded play fort and swing.

Green area with a shaded play fort and shaded table and seating. 

Rollins ParkJoy Rollins Park, Nanum. Bike path access is via Ayam Crt, Christie Ave and Kanthin Ave.

The park has two shaded playgrounds, a swing, seating, BBQ and water bubbler. Roadside parking only.

Alstonia Park, Alstonia Drive, Nanum.

The park has play equipment and a swing.

Central Park image

Trunding Greenbelt

Located between Trunding and Rocky Point and accessed via Wattle Terrace. The fitness station is located along the bike path in the shade of the eucalypts. 


On John Evans Drive bike path. Two stations, separated by a few hundred metres, each with three pieces of fitness equipment. Follow the path to Evans Landing for a great run, walk or ride.

Fitness StationRocky Point 

Located beside the bike path in the Rocky Point Park this fitness station has heaps of play equipment to keep the kids entertained while mum and dad work out.

Greenbelts and green spaces

Putts Palms, Trunding Creek

A large grassy area on Central Avenue, with plenty of shade from the Palm trees it’s named after. The park has ample informal parking, and is the perfect place for a picnic.

Foreshore areas

Rocky Point

Rocky Point has a large grassy area overlooking the Rocky point boat ramp.

River Drive

Foreshore has a shady grassed area with some seating overlooking Albatross Bay. What better place to watch the sun set!
