Considering its remote location in far north Queensland, Weipa township has a great range of essential services and lifestyle facilities.
Air travel to Weipa is via the daily QantasLink service, or through regular SkyTrans services or charter flights.
Road access is via the Peninsula Developmental Road. This road is unsealed and may be closed during the wet season.
A twice-weekly barge service between Cairns and Weipa generally operates year-round, even during the wet season.
To get around town, contact the Weipa Taxi Service (131 008), hire a vehicle from one of the two car rental companies at the airport, or hire a bicycle.
Weipa residents have access to a range of medical services and clinics through the Weipa Integrated Health
Service (the Weipa Hospital), the General Practice, and the local dentist.
Other independent organisations and practitioners provide aged care, chronic health management services and alternative therapies to the residents of Weipa and surrounding communities. The Community Centre provides support for women, men and children in crisis due to domestic violence.
Electricity is provided by Rio Tinto (07 4069 8417). Garbage collection services run twice weekly and the landfill facility is open daily, at no cost to the public.

Ambulance, Police and Fire services are available in Weipa, and a Storm Surge Shelter has recently been built for disaster and community use.
Weipa also has an airport, seaport, magistrate’s court, library, Weipa Town Authority chambers/community meeting room and animal pound.

Weipa has squash courts, two sets of tennis courts, cricket and football ovals, a lawn bowls club, a 9-hole golf course, dirt kart track, horse owners club, bow shooting range, rifle range, pottery club, aquatic centre and bicycle and pedestrian pathways. The Post Office in Weipa offers post office boxes for hire and mail collection services. Please note that there is no postal street delivery in Weipa.
Freight is delivered on the twice-weekly barge service between Cairns and Weipa year round and road freight is available during the dry season. Air freight services are also available.
