Weipa Town Authority (WTA) actively supports local groups and organisations that provide programs, activities, events and projects that enhance community wellbeing, build capacity and enrich the diversity of social, sport, cultural and economic opportunities for residents.
One of the ways we achieve this is through financial assistance, in the form of grants, donations and sponsorship. There are currently five types of financial assistance available from WTA.
Community Groups Grants
Small one-off grants of up to $2,000 made available twice per financial year to eligible groups. This program is intended to fund small one-off projects, programs or equipment purchases that improve the organisation’s ability to conduct activities, increase participation and build capacity.
Community Events/Festivals Sponsorship
Annual financial assistance of up to $5,000 for groups delivering community events and festivals in Weipa. This program is intended to sponsor events which contribute to the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of the community and to foster ongoing partnerships with mutual benefits for the WTA and local organisations. Funding is ongoing through the year.
Annual Emergency Service Donations
Annual financial assistance of up to $4,500 for identified emergency service groups which facilitate the delivery of activities and services which are considered to be in the public interest. One annual round of donations will be conducted each year.
Youth Achievement Donation
A cash donation of up to $500 to help individuals pursue cultural, academic or sporting excellence. Applications must be made under the auspice of an eligible organisation and must demonstrate qualification under a competitive selection process. Funding is ongoing through the year.
Chairperson Discretionary Fund
A cash donation of up to $1000 is made available to organisations or individuals from the Chairperson’s discretionary fund.
