Thank you for your interest in working at WTA.
Volunteering with Weipa Town Authority
WTA is fortunate to be able to call on a number of volunteers who provide valuable support to the Weipa Local Disaster Management Group. Together, they help prepare for disasters in our community, such as tropical cyclones, severe storms or bushfires.
Volunteers can take up support roles suited to their specific skills and experience, and all volunteers will be provided with the necessary training. Available roles include:
- Assisting with call centre operations
- Administration support
- People and facility management (including the Weipa Storm Surge Shelter).
Please note that in the event of a disaster, volunteers may be expected to provide support on a rotating roster, including both day and night shifts.
If you would like to register your interest for volunteering, please contact the Disaster Management Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteering within the Weipa Community
Weipa also has many not-for-profit groups that rely on the time, expertise and experience of volunteers. These groups provide services to the community in a range of areas including sport, recreation, social, wildlife and environment, and community support.
There are many benefits to volunteering including:
- Meeting new people
- Gaining experience
- Staying active and involved
- Trying something new
- Learning new skills
- Giving back to the community
- Supporting a cause
If you are interested in volunteering, please refer to the Sport and Recreation Directory or contact Weipa Town Authority on 07 4030 9400 for details of community groups seeking volunteers.
