Tropical cyclones are an occasional fact of life in the Cape, and Weipa is no exception. So it’s important to understand the risks and have an emergency plan in place if a cyclone strikes.
The official cyclone season is from November to April (the wet season) when residents should stay tuned to warnings and weather forecasts. For the latest cyclone information:
- Listen to local radio: ABC Radio (1044AM Weipa)
- Log on to the Bureau of Meteorology website
- Watch local television (ABC or Imparja)
